After yesterday’s soaking up in the clouds we let our boots dry out a bit and did some much needed chores this morning; buying shoelaces, ibuprofen and the Sunday Times. The last item was bought mainly to use in drying the boots, but some of it did get read. So today’s walk was a record short one, along the railway line from Alston to Slaggyford, with no ascent whatsoever. And this was a line actually in use; the South Tynedale Railway runs steam trains on weekends and the path runs right next to the 2ft narrow gauge track. Also today we passed into Northumberland from Cumbria (the picture below refers to Cumberland but this is an old pre-1974 designation). Northumberland is the northernmost county of England; Scotland is getting close!
A reminder to all; we are raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Thank you to all of you who have already donated.
Finally, thank you to the Chartered Accountants Worldwide Network USA for mentioning us on their website;

2ft gauge! I bet you won’t see many of those, even back in the day.
It’s the only narrow gauge we saw the entire journey, and it passed us twice!
I would have let the train take the strain! pleased you had a good easy walk
cant be too much more to go now?
Today we finished our second 7 day stretch on the PW and tomorrow is a rest day. Then it’s just 5 more days of walking to Kirk Yetholm!
