From Cornwall to Devon…

After a great rest day in our Airbnb in Launceston we awoke early. After a hearty breakfast were on the trail by 7.30am. We joined the Two Castles trail and crossed our first county border from Cornwall into Devon. The Two Castles trail links the castle towns of Launceston and Okehampton and is a mixture of road and footpath trails, which were very well signposted with no trace of barbed wire obstruction. The day started sunny and we soon got back into the swing of our daily walk routine; start off slow and get into a rhythm made easier today by an uncomplicated route; our first stop was in Lifton where we had a coffee at the Arundel Hotel. The church was open but the singing voices of the choir discouraged entry. Benches were few and far between today so our second stop (for crisps!) was taken sitting on the concrete with our backs to a metal farm gate. We had planned to have a long lunch at the Blue Lion in Lewdown, but when we called we found out they were closed until Wednesday, so an alternative plan was hatched, namely to have cheese and chicken sandwiches for lunch and take our evening meal at a local pub, as Jane, who runs the Lobhill Farmhouse B&B, kindly offered to give us a lift. Our second church was at Stowford but this was closed. Lobhill Farmhouse was great; a huge room containing a bathroom itself larger than some of the rooms we have already stayed in. Our host Jane was very accommodating and offered to drive to and from a pub for dinner; we chose the White Hart in Bridestowe.
