A shorter walk today so we were able to linger over a ‘full English’ breakfast at the Mustard Tree. The day started off cloudy but mercifully dry. The path to Hayle ran along the clifftop mostly shrouded in vegetation but when we broke through, the path started to make its huge wide deviation around the estuary. Alas no ferry or enterprising zodiac skipper could take us over the narrow gap of water so we trudged around the long way, stopping for an excellent drink and lunch (monkfish and chicken salads respectively). The coast path then took us up to the dunes, or ‘towans’ in Cornish, and it was a good mostly flat walk north. The way was well signposted with huge granite markers which was a blessing because it would have been incredibly easy to get lost. At last Churchtown Farm campsite came into view around 5.00pm and we hastily got the tent up before the threatened rain. Four men stood next to a Landrover making pizzas, using a wood oven actually built into the back section. We couldn’t resist and booked our pizzas for later whilst we had showers and did our laundry. Early night tonight.
